Prior to the referendum, on June 19, 2016, members of United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD) held a public gathering for their opening ceremony of UDD Referendum Monitoring center in their respective towns.
In the district of Mueng Nongbualamphu, the said activity was allegedly held at a temple, Uthumpornphichai. The defendants denied as only a banner was there but they were just informing their fellow villagers about the upcoming referendum.

On the day, out of three defendants, only Jittra was at the temple whereas Sanit and Suwajit weren’t. Still, the three, and other 15 villagers were summoned for interrogation and informed the charge of violating the order of the head of the NCPO no.3/2015. 12 of them pleaded guilty and were then brought to a military camp for ‘attitude adjustment’ but the 3 defendants denied the allegation and were released on bail.
