On 31 July 2016, youth activists groups organized a talk called 'Talk for Freedom: The draft Constitution and E-sarn people' in Khon Kaen University. Before the event started, police and military officers including university staff asked to stop the event but the organizers denied and moved on.

Until 17 Augeust 2016, police from Muang Khon Kaen Police Station issued a warrant under the charge of political gathering up t0 5 persons, defying the Head of NCPO order no. 3/2558 to 3 students: Jatupat, Chatmongkol and Narongrit. While Nattaporn, a New E-sarn activist and two obsevers from Thai Lawyers for Human Rights (TLHR) also were charged. Later 5 more persons were summoned to be charged.
